Dynobase vs DynoTable
Dynobase and DynoTable are both desktop GUI clients for Amazon DynamoDB. We make Dynobase. This page compares the two as fairly as we can, and says plainly where DynoTable is the better choice.
The short answer
Pick DynoTable if you want a free plan, a longer trial, SQL JOIN and GROUP BY across tables, an AI agent inside the app, or OpenSearch in the same client.
Pick Dynobase if you want to pay once, work on an Intel Mac, or keep backups, CloudWatch metrics and a Streams viewer next to your data.
Side by side
Where DynoTable is the better pick
- A free plan. When the trial ends, DynoTable keeps browsing, PartiQL SELECT, exports and MCP reads free, with no time limit (pricing). Dynobase has no free plan.
- A longer trial. DynoTable's trial lasts 30 days and needs no card. Dynobase's trial lasts 7 days (pricing).
- SQL JOIN and GROUP BY across tables. DynoTable's SQL Workbench turns a join into Query and Scan calls and combines the results on your machine (DynoTable). DynamoDB's PartiQL has no JOIN or GROUP BY (AWS reference), so Dynobase's SQL mode cannot do this.
- An AI agent in the app. DynoTable's agent runs on Amazon Bedrock in your own AWS account, and you pay AWS for the tokens (DynoTable). Dynobase AI drafts code from a description (Dynobase AI), but no agent acts on your tables.
- OpenSearch. DynoTable opens OpenSearch domains and Serverless collections next to your tables (changelog).
- Staged writes. In DynoTable, a save can stage as a diff that you review, attribute by attribute, before you commit (DynoTable).
- Vector index setup. DynoTable can create a vector index and re-embed an item when you edit it (DynoTable). Dynobase searches existing vector indexes only (semantic search).
Where Dynobase is the better pick
- Pay once. A lifetime licence costs $199 (pricing). DynoTable is subscription only (DynoTable).
- Intel Macs. Dynobase ships Apple Silicon and Intel builds. Install it with
brew install --cask dynobase(Homebrew). DynoTable's Mac build is for Apple Silicon only (download). - Backups, metrics and streams. Dynobase lists, creates, restores and deletes on-demand backups (backups). It shows CloudWatch metrics and tails DynamoDB Streams (monitoring). DynoTable leaves these to the AWS console (DynoTable).
- Copying and scheduled exports. Dynobase copies items to another table with key mapping (copy items) and schedules exports to local files (scheduled exports). DynoTable does neither (DynoTable).
- Infrastructure code before a table exists. Dynobase generates CDK, CloudFormation or Terraform from the New Table form as well as from existing tables (infrastructure code). DynoTable generates it from deployed tables (DynoTable).
- Single-table design. Dynobase's Single-Table Designer imports and exports NoSQL Workbench 3.x models (data modeling).
- Three machines per licence. DynoTable allows two (Dynobase pricing, DynoTable pricing).
- Years in use. dynobase.dev has been on the web since at least October 2019 (Wayback Machine). DynoTable's first dated release is 0.2.0 on 23 June 2026 (changelog).
What both do
- An MCP server. Both let AI coding tools such as Claude Code read your tables. Dynobase's server listens on localhost only and needs a bearer token. It is read-only until you turn on Allow writes, and writes made through it are recorded in item History (MCP server). DynoTable includes MCP reads on its Free plan. Its paid seats add staging and write tools (pricing).
- Undo. Dynobase keeps an item history with undo (bulk edit and history). DynoTable lets you revert committed writes from History (DynoTable).
- Modern AWS sign-in. Dynobase supports sso_session profiles (workspace settings) and MFA (changelog). DynoTable supports AWS IAM Identity Center sign-in (pricing).
- The same yearly price for one user: $9 a month, billed yearly.
What DynoTable says about Dynobase
DynoTable publishes a page called Dynobase Alternative. The Wayback Machine first archived it on 29 July 2026, six weeks before Dynobase 3.0 shipped on 11 September 2026. The current version says it was last verified on 9 October 2026, and it now covers 3.0. Most of it is accurate. Here is where it needs an update or context.
- "Dynobase publishes no dated release history." Our changelog now lists every release with its date, from 3.0.0 on 11 September 2026 to 3.0.9 on 28 October 2026.
- No free tier. Correct. Dynobase has a 7-day trial, then a paid licence.
- No agent of its own. Correct. Dynobase AI drafts code from a description, and Dynobase connects to the agent you already use through its MCP server.
- No JOIN or GROUP BY. Correct. Dynobase runs DynamoDB's PartiQL, which has neither.
You may also read that Dynobase is no longer maintained. Check the dates in the changelog and the list of what's new in 3.0.
Try both
Both apps use the AWS profiles already on your machine (Dynobase, DynoTable), so you can run them side by side on the same tables. Dynobase's trial lasts 7 days. DynoTable's lasts 30 days.

Yes. Dynobase 3.0.0 shipped on 11 September 2026 and 3.0.9 on 28 October 2026. The changelog lists every release with its date.
Does Dynobase have a free plan?
No. Dynobase has a 7-day free trial. After that, Solo costs $9 a month billed yearly, or $199 once for a lifetime licence (pricing). DynoTable has a free plan with no time limit after a 30-day trial (DynoTable pricing).
Which is cheaper, Dynobase or DynoTable?
For one user on a yearly plan, they cost the same: $108 a year. DynoTable also bills $12 month to month and has a free plan. Does DynoTable run on Intel Macs?
No. DynoTable's macOS build is for Apple Silicon only (download page). Dynobase ships both Apple Silicon and Intel builds, and you can install it with brew install --cask dynobase (Homebrew).
Can Dynobase join two DynamoDB tables with SQL?
No. Dynobase's SQL mode runs PartiQL, and DynamoDB's PartiQL SELECT has no JOIN or GROUP BY (AWS reference). DynoTable's SQL Workbench runs JOIN, GROUP BY and aggregates by issuing Query and Scan calls and combining the results on your machine (DynoTable).
Do Dynobase and DynoTable both have an MCP server?
Yes. Both let AI coding tools such as Claude Code read your tables. Dynobase's server runs on localhost, needs a bearer token and is read-only until you allow writes (Dynobase MCP server). DynoTable includes MCP reads on its Free plan and adds staging and write tools on paid seats (DynoTable pricing).
